Beginning Band
Beginning Band is offered on a two year rotating basis with Intermediate Band. Students without experience who wish to participate in band should begin with our Beginning Band program. A new Beginning Band class will be offered for the Fall 2026 Semester. Dr. Taylor will meet with students to try instruments and make recommendations. Instruments usually offered in beginner band are flute, clarinet, coronet, and trombone.
The age range for Beginning Band students is 10 and up. Elementary and Middle School students will receive performance feedback/grades on an informal basis, primarily through their use of MakeMusic. A subscription to MakeMusic is included in the cost of tuition.
The Beginning Band will meet from 12:00PM – 1:00PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Advanced Band
Advanced Band will meet from 1:00PM – 2:00PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Toward the end of the semester, students may be required to come early a few times for additional ensemble practice.
The age range for Advanced Band is experience-based. Students will be involved in full band and ensemble work.
At the conclusion of the semester, parents of High-School-aged students will receive a transcript of their child’s activities and a semester grade. Parents wishing to include this information on a transcript for college admissions may do so. Instructional time in the band class will yield 1/4 Carnegie Units. Thus, students participating for four years can earn 2 Fine Arts units through Band activities.
